چکیده
The influence of cooperativity on conformational changes in biopolymers has been extensively studied both experimentally and theoretically.' Nevertheless relatively small attention has been paid to the existence of hysteresis cycles in some of these transitions. This might be due to the fact that non-reversible transitions are rather suspicious to many scientists. It is the merit of Aharon Katchalsky to have recognized the importance of hysteresis phenomena, especially as a mechanism for molecular memory recording. The aim of this paper is to present a theory of hysteresis in polyelectrolytes and to apply it to the helix-coil transition of the three-stranded complex poly(A) .2 poly(U) into the constituent polymers polyriboadenylate (poly(A)), and polyribouridylate (poly(U)). This conformational change preceeds the formation of the helix poly(A) .poly(A) in the acid titration of poly(A) -2 poly(U) according to Eq. (1) :

Molecular dynamics studies on the denaturation of polyalanine in the presence of guanidinium chloride at low concentration
Molecular dynamic simulation is a powerful method that monitors all variations in the atomic level in explicit solvent. By this method we can calculate many chemical and biochemical properties of large scale biological systems. In this work all-atom molecular dynamics simulation of polyalanine (PA) was investigated in the presence of 0.224, 0.448, 0.673, 0.897 and 1.122 M of guanidinium chlorid...
متن کاملSelf-catalysis in thermal hysteresis during random-coil to helix-dimer transition of the sulfonamidohelicene tetramer.
The sulfonamidohelicene tetramer changes its structure between a random-coil and a helix-dimer, by which molecular thermal hysteresis appears. Mixing experiments on helix-dimer and random-coil solutions and kinetic analysis show that the transition from the random-coil to the helix-dimer involves self-catalysis by the helix-dimer.
متن کاملThe stability of helical polynucleotides: base contributions.
Estimates have been made of the main contributions of the heterocyclic bases of DNA to the free energies of the two configurations in solution, the two-stranded helix and the single-strand random coil. The magnitude and directions of the dipole moments of the adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine base groups have been calculated by a semi-empirical molecular orbital treatment. Dipole-dipole, d...
متن کاملHow Do Palladium Complexes Affect on Coil Structure of Human Serum Albumin in the Presence of Carbon Nanotube? A Molecular Dynamics Study
To investigate the interaction and adsorption of drug and carbon nanotube on human serum albumin, three anti-cancer drugs ([Pd(phen)(R-gly)]NO3, R = methyl, propyl and amyl) with different hydrophobic tails and anticancer activities were selected. These drugs have better anti-tumor activity and less side effects than that known cis-platinum drug. Human serum albumin is also ...
متن کاملCompetition for hydrogen-bond formation in the helix-coil transition and protein folding.
The problem of the helix-coil transition of biopolymers in explicit solvents, such as water, with the ability for hydrogen bonding with a solvent is addressed analytically using a suitably modified version of the Generalized Model of Polypeptide Chains. Besides the regular helix-coil transition, an additional coil-helix or reentrant transition is also found at lower temperatures. The reentrant ...
